Xiaomi sold 1 million handsets in just 18 days in India

Xiaomi seems to have done the most of the current festive season in India. The Chinese handset maker has just claimed to have sold 1 million handsets in just 18 days. Considering that the festive season has just started, Xiaomi could report an even bigger figure in the coming time.

In an open letter to Xiaomi India employees and fans, Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun said that the company has achieved yet another milestone of selling 1 million handsets in just 18 days. While appreciating the hard work put in by employees of Xiaomi India and Manu Kumar Jain (Xiaomi India Head), Lei Jun in the letter said, "India is an extremely important market in Xiaomi's globalisation strategy. It has become our largest market outside of mainland China. I am confident that with the sustained efforts of our entire Xiaomi family, we will be able to capture the largest market share in India within 3-5 years."

Xiaomi entered India back in 2014 with the Mi 3 and the company's strategy of pricing high performance products aggressively has done wonders for the company as India is a price sensitive market like India.

Highlighting previous achievements, Jun mentioned that this year between July and August, Xiaomi became the top smartphone brand in the country, as reported by International Data Corporation (IDC).

Not only this, last month Xiaomi claimed that it has sold about 2.3 million units of Redmi Note 3 in just six months which in turn makes it the best-selling device Xiaomi ever launched in India. A couple of days ago, Xiaomi kicked off its Mi Diwali Sale in which the company is offering its products at some exciting prices. The sale also held a Rs 1 flash sale every day at 2PM from 17th -19th October.

Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi and OnePlus has taken over the Indian smartphone market by a hit with its offerings.
