Android 7.1 developer preview out for Nexus 5X, 6P and Pixel C tablet

Android 7.1 developer preview out for Nexus 5X, 6P and Pixel C tablet

As announced earlier this month, Google has released Android 7.1 developer preview for select Google devices such as Nexus 6P. Nexus 5X and Pixel C tablet. Further, Google has also confirmed that other promised devices will also receive the developer preview soon though the company didn't reveal any timeline.

Back in August, Google revealed Android 7.0 Nougat, the first time when Google didn't release the new Android version with its Nexus (Now Pixel) smartphones. In fact, LG V20 was the first phone to run Android 7.0 out of the box. However, earlier this month, Google launched its two new smartphones under a new brand called Pixel with Android 7.1. Further, Pixel devices come with certain features which are limited entirely to the Pixel line up which is very un-Google like.

If you happen to own any of the above mentioned devices and wish to install Android 7.1 developer preview, you must register to Google's Android Beta Program here.

Further, you can also download factory images of the developer preview if you have working knowledge of 'How to Flash Android factory images' on to your Nexus device.

The webpage given above also reveals that the final build for Android 7.1 will be available sometime in December, reportedly early December. Also, all the devices which are to get Android 7.0 update will also get Android 7.1 Nougat update.

As for the changes, Android 7.1 update brings a bunch of improvements such as Daydream View VR support, image keyboard, night-light, circular icons as we saw in Pixel smartphones, app shortcuts and a manual storage manager.

Unfortunately, the famous Google Assistant and Pixel launcher, as of now, is limited to Pixel devices only with no signs of it coming to other Android Nougat running devices. However, developers have come up with a work around for the same.

Also, Google is set to start shipping the pre-orders for Google Pixel and Pixel XL. Though, there has been no confirmation if Flipkart is shipping the device across India today or not. Let us know in the comment section below if you ordered any of the Pixel devices and got a notification from Flipkart regarding the shipping of the device.
